Choosing the Right Job Interview Clothes






When it comes to job interview clothes, one style definitely does not fit all. Now, more than ever, it’s important to take a closer look at the company you’ll be interviewing with — not only will it help you get a taste for their business, it will help you determine what to wear when you get called back for that all-important interview.

Dress Conservative for Conservative Companies
If you’re interviewing for a position at conservative company or in a conservative field, business attire is still the way to go. Here, it’s still better to overdress than to underdress, and the power suit still has a few plays left. So, keep your look understated and professional — and always dress for the job you want.

Know When To Keep It Casual
At some companies, wearing a suit means that you cared enough to make a good impression. At others, it has the opposite effect. It tells the interviewer that either #1, you aren’t a culture fit, or #2, you didn’t research the company. Because if you did your research, you’d know that no one wears a suit to the office — EVER. So let this be a lesson to you — always dress the part.

Board Shorts? Only If You’re Brilliant.
According to Google people operations manager, Brian Power, there is no interview dress code at Google. As he explains in this article from Mashable, "I've seen people come in in board shorts and a T-shirt and blow [us] away with their intellect, and I've seen people dressed to the nines who were unprepared. If you come in, be prepared and dress however you feel comfortable."

No matter what style of job interview clothes you choose, just remember to be yourself at the interview. While talent and style may get you in the door, it’s your personality that will set you apart.

But take it from us, people like money — whether it comes in the form of a bonus, raise, or a few extra dollars in their pockets. However, if those things are completely out of reach, a really nice gift card should do the trick. Just make sure its related to the employee’s hobbies or interests.
